WEDDING VENDOR INTERVIEW: TRENT AND JESSIE

Meet Trent and Jessie. When it comes to wedding photography, Trent and Jessie are a beautiful husband and wife team who bring heart, creativity and authenticity to every celebration they capture. Capturing weddings together since 2012 and married since 2013, they have spent over a decade documenting love stories with a shared passion for preserving life’s precious moments.

Trent and Jessie describe themselves as quiet and creative, which perfectly complements their approach to photography. Their focus is on capturing genuine emotions and the in-between moments that often hold the most meaning. When they’re not behind the camera, you’ll find them enjoying morning coffee, spending quality time together or seeking out new adventures. They’ve explored incredible destinations like Norway, Canada and Japan, which have inspired their love for unique experiences and beautiful storytelling.

1.    How would you describe your photography style and how does it influence the way you capture a couple’s wedding day? Our style is timeless and romantic, with a focus on capturing emotion, real interactions and how it felt in the moment. We take a documentary approach, through a romantic and nostalgic lens.

2.    How do you make couples feel comfortable and natural in front of the camera, especially if they’re a bit camera shy? We totally get that being in front of a camera can feel awkward, this is why we keep things very relaxed and do our best to shift our couple’s focus from our cameras to each other. It’s less about the photos and more about capturing time together. We encourage our couples and their loved ones to be as present and in the moment as they possibly can be, this always makes for the best photos.

3.    Do you have a favourite moment or part of the wedding day to photograph? What makes it so special to capture? Our favourite moment to capture is that just married, walk back down the aisle and the moments following where it starts to all sink in. There are always so many other special moments that vary depending on our couples.

4.    What is your process for preparing for a wedding day shoot? Do you meet with the couple beforehand to discuss specific ideas or locations? In the lead up to a wedding day we’re always available to assist with recommendations. We work with our couples on a photography timeline for the day, discuss photo locations, what’s important to them and gather a list of group photos. We love to meet in person before the day if we can, otherwise over video call.

5.    How do you manage unexpected changes like shifting light or sudden weather changes while still delivering beautiful images? After 10+ years photographing weddings we have encountered so many different weather conditions and unexpected changes to wedding days. We’re adaptable and creative and believe limitations often produce the most creativity. We always stay as calm as we can, hold plans and timings loosely and generally prepare for some change on every wedding day.

7.    How do you capture the unique details that couples put into their day like styling, flowers and attire in a way that feels cohesive with their overall story? In the planning stages we love to chat with our couples about what is important to them. Many of our couples have thought deeply about this and how their wedding can reflect who they are. All of the details, locations and people are a reflection of our couples and what they value, so we always take time to capture it all, everything adds to the story.

8.    Are there any must-have shots that you recommend all couples include in their wedding photography? Not really, we will capture whatever happens on their wedding day, however that looks. Of course, most weddings have the big moments in common throughout a ceremony, but other than that we encourage our couples to do whatever reflects them and how they want to enjoy the day.

9.    Do you have any tips for couples on what to look for when choosing a wedding photographer who suits their style? It’s important to choose photographers whose work you love and who you gel with personality wise. Photographers are around for so much of a wedding day and are privileged to capture a lot of intimate moments so it’s important that you feel comfortable and at ease with your photographer(s). It’s also worth seeing a full wedding gallery or two from your photographer before you book so you can see how they capture a full wedding day, this way you know what to expect.
