The Wedding Boom: Advice for Planning Your Wedding in 2022
With just three months left of 2021, it’s natural to be looking forward to what the next year may bring. And while there are still doubts surrounding what the new ‘COVID normal’ may look like, or if 2022 will be the year of international travel, there’s one thing we know for certain: the wedding industry is about to be hit with a wedding boom!
With almost2.47 million weddings predicted to occur in 2022, next year will mark the biggest wedding boom the industry has seen since 1984. This comes as no surprise when we think about how the last two years have been plagued with postponements, changes, and cancellations. In fact, according to the Choosi Love Report 2021, almost 33% of couples had to postpone or change their wedding dates. Pair this with new engagements and predicted shorter engagement periods, there’s no wonder why businesses are already seeing a surge of bookings, with eager couples sprinting for their favourite vendors.
So, if you’re looking to have a 2022 wedding, it’s time to start planning now!
Secure your Vendors
While the last thing anyone wants is to just grab at anything available, it’s important to keep in mind that with such high demand, venues and vendors are going to be booking out fast. If you’re planning a 2022 wedding, it’s imperative you start doing your research now, finding your favourite vendors (florists, photographers, makeup artists etc.) and securing them! You can still make great decisions and find fantastic vendors quickly, without it compromising your wedding vision.
Our advice: have a few select businesses for each vendor (as well as alternative dates), that way if your first choice is already booked out, you still have a few backups to fall onto.
Be Prepared for Price Increases
Like most businesses, COVID-19 truly took a big kick to the wedding industry and its vendors, forcing businesses to lose bookings and, ultimately, income. And while the industry is going to be up and running in the next few years with this wedding boom, bear in mind, there is likely to be some inflation in pricing. If you’re on a tight budget, have conversations with your vendors to see if you’re able to adapt your wedding visions, and consider what your main priorities are when it comes to wedding planning.
Flexibility is Key
Ultimately, what a lot of the next few years will come down to, is flexibility. Just like our year of postponements, the 2022 wedding boom will present a new set of hurdles and challenges for couples, and businesses alike, to work through. So please be patient with your vendors, have flexible rescheduling dates in mind, keep up communication with your guests, and be prepared to shift your budget or modify aspects of your wedding vision if needed.
Even amongst the craziness that may erupt in this wedding boom, it’s such an incredible feeling to be given just a touch more certainty after the last few years we have all had. Chances are, you might be attending more weddings than just your own next year, so while the wedding planning may still be stressful at times, keep those dancing shoes dusted off, and remember to enjoy every moment.
